{Sponsor Spotlight} Itzbeen Pocket Nanny in the Mother Knows Breast Giveaway

April 30, 2013

One of our sponsors in the Mother Knows Breast Giveaway is helping us beat “Mommy Brain” by keeping us on track!

ITZBEEN Pocket Nanny™ was developed by a new mom and dad who found themselves sleep-deprived and needing help to remember baby care details, such as when their baby last ate or napped. They tried charts and journals, but thought there had to be a better way. So, they created the ITZBEEN™: a multi-purpose nursery tool that helps new parents remember the basic details of baby care. The ITZBEEN Pocket Nanny™ has four timers that count up with the touch of a button, and a host of other helpful features, all designed with the needs of a new parent in mind.

I’ll have to admit that at first glance I thought to myself “I don’t need a reminder to feed the baby, He will let me know.” But I decided to give it a try so I could share my experience with you all. After all, I can remember wondering when I last fed the baby to see IF that was why he was crying. I am so glad I did! It is so nice to know that when he is crying I can look and see exactly how long it has been since he was changed, fed and slept.

The easy way to use it:

  • When you change baby’s diaper, tap the “diaper” button. The timer will start counting up.
  • When you feed baby tap the “feeding” button (represented by a bottle, I imagine that putting a boob on there might have been less consumer friendly, unfortunately)… At this point you can also use the toggle on the bottom to indicate which breast you left off on!
  • The “Sleep” button can be used 2 ways and I use it both ways. When you lay baby down for sleep, tap the button the timer will count up. Then when you wonder how long he/she has been sleeping you will know at a glance. THEN when he/she wakes, tap the button again. The timer will start over and you can see how long “Itzbeen” since he has slept.
  • The “Bonus” timer! Right now I use this to remind me to eat every 2-3 hours AND to drink some water! It could be used for MANY other things like timing medications, scheduling pumping sessions in the middle of the night or anything you can think of that you want to keep track of!

Basically, as new parents we are usually sleep deprived at first. When baby fusses it’s not always easy to figure out what they need. Until you get to know their different cries and cues you can look at this timer and see that it has been 2 hours since he fed and could be hungry or even though you want to sleep, he has been awake for 3 hours! Then you know what to do to sooth, comfort or care for them without the frustration of trying to remember when they ate, were changed or slept.

Using the alarms:

Each timer is also an alarm! To set the alarm you hold down the button instead of tapping it. It will flash and say either O:FF or the time that was set last. To change the time you simply tap the same button again for each 30 minute increment. THEN on the right side is a mute switch! When activated you will hear a beeping but if you turn the switch to mute the button will flash red without the beeping. To turn off the beeping simply turn the mute switch to “mute”.

Other features:

  • Backlight feature: the button below the timer buttons will turn on the backlight. This is great for nighttime! You don’t want to turn on the lights and wake everyone in the house. So pushing this button will light the display as well as the buttons!
  • Nightlight: At the top there is a nightlight! Press the button and the night light turns on, press again it turns off. OR you can leave it on and turns off automatically after 7 minutes.
  • Clock: There is a clock at the bottom that shows what time it actually is.
  • Button lock: Turn the switch on the left side to lock and your timers won’t accidentally be reset!
  • Belt clip: There is a belt clip on the back so you can take it around the house or running errands hands free.

My thoughts

I already mentioned that at first I didn’t think this was something I would use. But this has turned out to be a great help! This would also come in handy for baby sitters. My husband and I work opposite shifts so sometimes when he comes home I leave without letting him know what has been done recently and what would be coming soon. The Itzbeen timer lets him know when I’m not able to tell him! As you may know this is my 3rd baby. We are experienced parents. This is still an amazing help!

Not only will this keep your feeding sessions on track and tell you which breast to start with. It also helps keep track of how often baby is wetting diapers which is a good indicator if baby is getting enough milk.

I would definitely recommend this to any parents, whether its your first time or 5th!

When I had my first little one I was going to school this helped me keep things straight during my hectic schedule. Now that I’m working I hope it will help me out just as much as with this next little one.

what a wonderful idea! I can’t tell you how much you need one of these when you first have the baby since you are on zero sleep and need to keep track of these things. I never heard of one of these.

I love the idea of using this with a babysitter! I feel like I do fine on my own, but think it would be really helpful when my baby is being watched by someone else.

I am a mother of 5 so I understand the need for such an invention. No sleep and taking care of other kids can wear you down and make you forget things.

  23. May 11, 2013 12:57 pm

Interesting- this would be an effective way to stay organized especially if you had a babysitter or something.

I’m not sure how i feel about this – I think all the buttons and alarms would have stressed me out and made me rely more on the clock instead of just paying attention to my baby’s cues. But if it helps other mamas relax and feel more confident than great!

This would help so much with new babysitters/grandparents… I’m not good at remembering our schedule, so when Grandma asks when does he normally feed, nap, etc… I never have and answer for her! I think this would help me be able to give her an idea!

It’s amazing how sleep deprivation can make you feel as if you are losing your mind! I am a stay at home and with my first I couldn’t remember each time which side I nursed on last…this would be the perfect tool to help me out when my second one comes in Sept and it has SO many great features too! 😀
